Advice On Using Netgalley {#15}

TOP TEN TUESDAY

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature created at The Broke and the Bookish where each week we’re given a new topic to create a top ten list.

Welcome to the 15th Top Ten Tuesday.
If you missed any of the previous TTT’s you can click here.

This weeks topic was a freebie so I decided to share about Netgalley.

ADVICE ON USING NETGALLEY

Netgalley is a useful tool for readers and bloggers. Below is some advice on how to get the most out of Netgalley. Requesting a book is not a guarantee that you’ll get approved BUT if you can get past the rejection emails and are able to use some of these tips …you’ll eventually get a YES!

1• When creating your Netgalley profile list your: blog, twitter, facebook, Amazon profile and Goodreads account. Publishers are looking to see where you post your reviews and interact with other readers.

2• For those who use Goodreads make sure your profile page is open (not set to private) so publishers can view your account.

3• Also include on your Netgalley profile how many books you’ve read last year. Or/and how many you’ve read to date.

4• This video shows you how to submit your review.

5• Worried that you aren’t allowed to submit a critical review?  Find out here what NG says about submitting a negative review.

6• You’ll notice on your Netgalley profile a section called  “Recommended Feedback to Approval Ratio.”  Publishers look at it to see how willing you are to read and submit reviews.  Netgalley recommends you  keep it at 80% or above.

7• When you get approved for a book download the book right away even if you don’t plan to  read it right away. I learned the hard way. Two years ago, I didn’t download a book I was approved for and it got archived.  Which meant I was unable to  download it from NG. Good news is you can still review a book that has been archived but the bad news is you’ll  have to buy the book or borrow it from your local library.

8• The Notes section in the give Feedback section on submitting a review – in that area leave comments for the publishers.  Let them know when the review will be posted on your blog along the URL to the post.  If I love the cover or something special about the book that I didn’t add in my review I put that info in this section.

9• When I log onto NG I always check Recently Added. If I log on every couple days I can quickly browse the ‘Recently Added’ to figure out if there are any books I want to request.

10• Make sure to check the Read Now because those books you don’t need a publisher’s approval.  You’re automatically approved.

I’m not affiliated with NG.  I just enjoy the services they offer.

    1. You’re welcome! I’ve been using NG since 2012. At first I got denied for everything but being patient and making sure keeping your profile page updated with your ‘stats’ started getting me approved. 🙂

    1. I just read your TTT. That is a great post topic. I haven’t read any of those books but very interesting thoughts.
(my account won’t let me post on blogger…it won’t recognize my account. *le sigh*)
