*happy sigh* I love Trick and his non stereotypical biker ways.

I scored the JACKPOT with KNIFE & FLESH! It was AMAZING!

description

KNIFE & FLESH is the love story of Trick & Juliana. Readers briefly met Julianna in FIRE & DARK. Her character is intriguing because we only get a glimpse of her and just like Trick our curiosity is piqued.

The ‘meet cute’ was endearing.
Let me start off by saying Trick is a former sniper in the military. Up until a year ago he had dreadlocks for 10 years.
On a side note- through a chain of events, that you read about, in the previous books Trick has shaved his locks off. I will admit I’m not a fan of dreadlocks but for some reason I was super disappointed he shaved them off.
Trick’s ‘meet cute’ doesn’t happen with Juliana but with her daughter Lucie. They’re cute exchange on the apartment steps had me smiling. Lucie is four years old and like all Fanetti’s kid characters she stole the scene.

”He was falling apart now.”
Trick’s past debilitates him… it haunts his dreams but also cripples him in the daylight. He carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. The ugly he has seen can never be undone. Along with the shouldering those burdens comes the payouts. The money doesn’t ease his mind but does the opposite. ”It was dangerous – dangerous to earn, to save, to spend.” In the midst of Trick falling apart Juliana encourages him to get help but Trick doesn’t want to burden others with his problems. In the end he relents and confides in his bestfriend, Connor. There were some bromance moments that had me laughing and aaahhh-ing. I just love Trick’s interaction with everyone he loves in this book.

One thing I love about Trick is he’s not your stereotypical biker.

”Go be strong. But do it with your hearts.”
An underlying political commentary runs through the last half of the book because of Trick’s military background. The scenes were intense and heartbreaking. At one point in the story I naively thought this was going to be the first Fanetti book that didn’t make me bawl. Well, I was wrong and I hope the author continues to provoke those feelings in me with her future books. I could fill a small lake with all my tears I’ve cried throughout her three series.

”…what is means to be a biker.”
After the story is over and you flip to the last page there is an AFTERWORD written by Trick. WOW! I gleamed a lot of wisdom out of his thoughts. Ms. Fanetti makes me want to belong to this club because each of her books incorporates the philosophies found within this piece. I’ve read the ‘afterword’ several times and there’s so much I want to say but will refrain to allow you to discover the reason why Trick is the THINKER of his club.

I don’t know how Ms. Fanetti continues to make each book more profound than the last but she has made a life long fan with me. I was blown away with the complexity of the story and the difficult situations both sets of characters must face. Their journey to togetherness was one of inspiring feats.

Oh yea, I had a major FANGIRL moment when I read my name in Trick’s book. It was one line and I’m sure Ms. Fanetti didn’t intentionally put it there for me… BUT I’m totally claiming it, in my mind, that it was meant for me. *lol* Maybe that minuscule mention will turn into a full blown character later on. *dreams do come true*

I LOVED THIS BOOK!

Kim’s Review:

6+ STARS

Have I mentioned before how brilliant I think Susan Fanetti is? I’m sure you’ve seen a review or two from me, alluding to the fact that I may be (just a tiny bit) obsessed with her writing. There isn’t a single thing she’s written that I haven’t fallen a little in love with. Except this book … I’m not just a little in love with Knife & Flesh … I’m head over fucking heels, over the moon, lost in love.

There’s a few reasons why this is hands down my favorite Fanetti read … (YES! you read that right. FAVORITE!) I’ll give you the shortened list:

#1. Trick Stavros. He has been on my radar since first mentioned in this series … the quiet, introspective man with dreadlocks and intelligent, bookish ways … dear lord! He is the epitome of the biker bad boy / intelligent geek mix that I yearn for. He is off the charts sexy in so, so many ways … I like boys with big … brains! Getting inside that sexy head of his was such a wonderful treat. He is so much more than I could have ever dreamed of. And I just about died when I read that first sex scene!!! I am IN LOVE with him. Honestly, I was very worried that I was going to be mad at my husband for a long time, simply because he couldn’t live up to the dream of Trick (yes, I realize how fucked up that is … and I’m not even sorry). Trick is quite frankly my perfect man. My husband is close second. LOL

So many contradictions in him. Gentle and rough, thoughtful and physical. Strong and vulnerable.

#2. Outlaw. Have you ever thought about the definition of this word? I love how Fanetti has evaluated it and set out to reshape the meaning so often associated with the term. Some of my favorite moments of the book are in the discussion of this topic.

“I’m an outlaw. I don’t recognize laws when the people who made the aren’t subject to them, when only the powerless are subjected. I live outside that law. I live in a world with it’s own code.”~Trick

#3. Rebellion. There is such a huge political undercurrent to this story. I love when something as seemingly simple as a romance novel can make a heavy political statement without shoving it down your throat. The concepts in Knife & Flesh are artfully woven into the story-line … but I guarantee, you will be left thinking.
This is honestly what pushed this book beyond good & into fucking phenomenal territory (for me). Being an extremely opinionated and politically minded person made it easy for me to connect to this book and these characters. There is nothing more irritating (to me) than seeing an author sit the fence / play the middle / ignore an obvious topic entirely … I love that Fanetti tackles things head on, with a clear and definitive position. I feel like I was reading a lot of my own thoughts in this book … it’s no wonder I love it so damn much. HA!

“Give me a place to stand, and I shall move the earth.”

#4. Juliana. Another strong female lead who lets me believe that there really are amazing women in the world … not just a bunch of designer obsessed idiots walking around, worrying more about their hair and nails than the people and the world around them. Juliana has her moments of weakness, but they are so profoundly beautiful. My appreciation for this type of heroine is immeasurable.

“I want everything to be beautiful and nothing to hurt.” ~Juliana

#5. Lucie. Because Susan Fanetti knows how to write kids. They are real human beings in her stories … not just entertainment or filler on the side. Lucie is an active part of this story and plays just a significant a role as any of the adults. Real. And she’s a pretty amazing little character too!

“Surprises are good. They’re like presents of fun.”~Lucie

What else can I say … this book was beyond wonderful! I LOVED IT! I highly encourage anyone who hasn’t picked up a Susan Fanetti novel, GET ON IT! But don’t start with this book … it is a series after all … read it in order:
Strength & Courage, Shadow & Soul, Today & Tomorrow, Fire & Dark, Dream & Dare,Knife & Flesh
