Review: DAMAGED LIKE US by Krista & Becca Ritchie

DAMAGED LIKE US

(Like Us #1)

Krista & Becca Ritchie

BLURB

Don’t date your bodyguard.
It was the one rule he had to break.

Maximoff Hale is a force of nature. A ship unwilling to be steered. Headstrong, resilient, and wholly responsible — the twenty-two-year-old alpha billionaire can handle his unconventional life. By noon, lunch can turn into a mob of screaming fans. By two, his face is all over the internet.

Born into one of the most famous families in the country, his celebrity status began at birth.

He is certified American royalty.

When he’s assigned a new 24/7 bodyguard, he comes face-to-face with the worst case scenario: being attached to the tattooed, MMA-trained, Yale graduate who’s known for “going rogue” in the security team — and who fills 1/3 of Maximoff’s sexual fantasies.

Twenty-seven-year-old Farrow Keene has one job: protect Maximoff Hale. Flirting, dating, and hot sex falls far, far out of the boundary of his bodyguard duties and into “termination” territory. But when feelings surface, protecting the sexy-as-sin, stubborn celebrity becomes increasingly complicated.

Together, boundaries blur, and being exposed could mean catastrophic consequences for both.

Damaged Like Us can be read and enjoyed without reading any of Krista & Becca’s other novels.

I remember when the twins mentioned creating this series and how excited I was to know I would be able to continue reading about my favorite famous families. The Hales, Meadows, and Cobalts, from the Addicted series, are now parents with their children are growing up in the limelight. Some of the kids are now young adults and the world wants a piece of them.

Moffy is Lily & Lo’s 22-year-old son. He lives with his cousin, Jane Cobalt, and because of who their parents are they have 24/7 bodyguards. Moffy is sought have by the paparazzi and his adoring fans.

FARROW

Farrow is the 27-year-old bodyguard to Lily for the last 3 years. When Moffy’s bodyguard retires Lily suggest that Farrow be the one to take that position. As with any mother they want the very best for their kids and Farrow fits that bill.

Being the kids of a famous family isn’t always easy especially when your life is lived in the public eye. Everyone, family & public, knows Moffy is bi-sexual. He has the public watching to see if he’ll be a sex addict like his mom or a drunk like his father. Even though his parents conquered their demons the public is waiting for him to slip up and show them that he is also damaged like his parents.

Farrow has been around the Hale family long before he became their bodyguard. As a kid, his father was the family doctor and is still their family doctor. Farrow tagged along on calls to the Hale household because his dad was priming him to follow in the long generational tradition of becoming a doctor. Moffy had a crush on Farrow all those years so when Farrow became his bodyguard the two of them postured on who was in charge. Since we are privy to both POVs, we know that Farrow likes Moffy too.

These two alphas have to learn how to be together without anyone finding out. If Farrow became famous then he won’t be able to protect Moffy anymore. Being just “us” with each other when they could find a free moment was touching. Seeing how Moffy reacts to his first long-term relationship was endearing. The little things they do for each other were sweet.

DAMAGED LIKE US is the first book in the Like Us series. “The Like Us series is a true series, one continuous timeline, that follows a family of wealthy celebrities and the people that protect them. Damaged Like Us can be read and enjoyed without reading any of Krista & Becca’s other novels.” Lovers of forbidden romance will enjoy this m/m romance. The story is a real page-turner that will keep you up reading late into the night!
