Hold onto your heart if you read this book. I mean the title tips you off that you’re going to go through the wringer of emotions.
I REALLY don’t like love triangles BUT I’m making an expectation for this book. It was well done. And had me trying to figure out how it will all end.
But what caught my attention for reading this book was the role reversal. The woman was the one leaving her husband and son behind as she serves her time in the military. In the military books I’ve read it’s the guy going off to serve his time and leaving his family behind. So, that piqued my interest.
There are 3 POV and each one is likable. In a love triangle, there’s usually one character who is a jerk which makes it easy for the reader to root for the other person to be with the main character.
But that wasn’t the case in this book. There are no bad guys unless you count what happens to two of the characters while they were serving.
Katy goes off to war as one person and she returns as a changed person from the trauma she suffered while serving. Being a prisoner of war flipped her life upside down: she is captured with another soldier. To survive what they endure they form a bond and that bond is something they aren’t able to free themselves of once they are rescued.
The story felt very real and has probably happened more times than we know in real life. It really showcased what trauma can do to a person and how it can change their inner core.
My heart hurt for all the characters in the book.
