Review – The Martian by Andy Weir

THE MARTIAN

Andy Weir

I’m starting out by saying that I won’t be giving this one a star rating because I’m not sure what to rate it.

I listened to the audio of this one with my husband. We listened while we went on our nightly walks. He loved it. He gave theaudio 5 stars in all three categories (overall, performance, story).

During our walks, I would look at him and say, “Where’s the romance?”
And his response was, “Why does it need romance?”
IT JUST DOES! I like my books to have a small aspect of romance…it gives me hope for humanity.

While listening to this I kept thinking could I survive IF I WAS LEFT BEHIND ON MARS.
Now that I’m done with the book I know that my chances of survival on Mars are ZERO. I don’t think I would have made it one day. If perchance I did live past the first day I’m pretty sure I’d do something stupid that would lead to my demise.

One of my husband’s pet peeves with me is when I read a book and then see the movie because I spend the whole time saying,“That’s not how it happened.” I’m looking forward to seeing this movie with my husband… I’m hoping he does that throughout this movie so he can no longer tease me about doing it.

Thank you, Christy, for gifting me this book. I love that we got to read it with our husbands. And thank you, Kara, for pushing me to read it. đŸ™‚

  1. We just saw this movie last night – it was AWESOME!!! But you are correct, no romance. I was waiting for the romance, but nothing. Sigh.

Still, great movie that had us both on the edge of our seats.

I did not read the book before the movie, because in my opinion, the book is ALWAYS better than the movie and it sort of spoils the movie for me. So this time I did it opposite. Movie first, now book.

    1. That is awesome to hear! Now, I’m looking forward to seeing the movie even more.
And I totally get your reasoning for seeing the movie before the book. I have a good friend who does the same thing. đŸ™‚
Let me know what you think of the book.

  2. That is so romantic…you walk together…and listen to the same book. Very jealous. My hubby doesn’t read AT ALL…and he runs. Where did I go wrong? Just kidding, he does sweet things to make up for his failings đŸ™‚

    1. Ha ha!!!
Mine isn’t a “reader” either…but he will do an audio book.
Now, on our walks we listen to different things. Him -> podcast. Me -> audiobook.

I actually consider what we do more of a “drag”…. he drags me along with him. At mile 2 I start breaking down (complaining) and I last for 3 miles then I’m done. He walks too fast for me. LOL

Your man is a keeper. That gift he brought home the other night was awesome. <3
