Tears of Tess

Tears of Tess Book Cover Tears of Tess
Monsters in the Dark
Pepper Winters

From Amazon.com:

A New Adult Dark Contemporary Romance, not suitable for people sensitive to grief, slavery, and nonconsensual sex. A story about finding love in the strangest of places, a will of iron that grows from necessity, and forgiveness that may not be enough.

“My life was complete. Happy, content, everything neat and perfect.
Then it all changed.
I was sold.”

Tess Snow has everything she ever wanted: one more semester before a career in property development, a loving boyfriend, and a future dazzling bright with possibility.

For their two year anniversary, Brax surprises Tess with a romantic trip to Mexico. Sandy beaches, delicious cocktails, and soul-connecting sex set the mood for a wonderful holiday. With a full heart, and looking forward to a passion filled week, Tess is on top of the world.

But lusty paradise is shattered.

Kidnapped. Drugged. Stolen. Tess is forced into a world full of darkness and terror.

Captive and alone with no savior, no lover, no faith, no future, Tess evolves from terrified girl to fierce fighter. But no matter her strength, it can’t save her from the horror of being sold.

Can Brax find Tess before she’s broken and ruined, or will Tess’s new owner change her life forever?

description

*3.5 Q stars*

A year ago this book was recommended to me and when I saw it on Netgalley, the other day, I thought it was time to finally read it.

One reason I enjoy dark books is because they evoke all kinds of emotions from the reader. Yes, I’m an emotional junkiewhen it comes to books. I love the thrill of being shocked and at times having to cover my eyes when something either scares me or disgust me.

“…fantasy turned into realities…”

Tess fantasizes about having a darker sex life than she currently has with her boyfriend. She wants its rough and to be owned while her boyfriend likes their simple relationship.

Tess’s fantasies become a realty when she is kidnapped on a trip to Mexico and given to a man, Q, as a bribe.

Tess’s inner dialogue was frustrating for me. Being that she was wishy-washy at times caused me to not connect with her character. When she started blaming herself for being kidnapped because she always wished for a rougher sex like that just didn’t feel genuine. While I may not have been rooting for Tess…I was intrigued by the man she called Q. My driving force to finish the book was Q because I wanted to know more about his mysterious past. Plus I enjoyed that he was a control freak who was remote and aloof.

TEARS OF TESS is Ms. Winters debut novel. I can see why lots of friends love this book. I’ve been told that book 2 is the favorite among most who’ve read the series. I’ll be curious to see where the story takes Q and Tess. Just because my stars weren’t 4 or 5 doesn’t mean I won’t continue on with the series. Some of my favorite series I have 3 starred the first book; “The Addicted Series” and one of my favorite books last year was “Dirty Red” (book 2) even though I gave the first book 3 stars.
