Enter the Grishaverse with Book One of the Shadow and Bone Trilogy by the #1 New York Times–bestselling author of Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom.
Soldier. Summoner. Saint. Orphaned and expendable, Alina Starkov is a soldier who knows she may not survive her first trek across the Shadow Fold—a swath of unnatural darkness crawling with monsters. But when her regiment is attacked, Alina unleashes dormant magic not even she knew she possessed.
Now Alina will enter a lavish world of royalty and intrigue as she trains with the Grisha, her country’s magical military elite—and falls under the spell of their notorious leader, the Darkling. He believes Alina can summon a force capable of destroying the Shadow Fold and reuniting their war-ravaged country, but only if she can master her untamed gift.
As the threat to the kingdom mounts and Alina unlocks the secrets of her past, she will make a dangerous discovery that could threaten all she loves and the very future of a nation.
Welcome to Ravka . . . a world of science and superstition where nothing is what it seems.

Where to begin?
Let me start by saying the fantasy genre isn’t something I read very often.
I actually decided to read this after hearing it was going to be on Netflix.
What is this book about?
The story revolves around an orphan named, Alina. When she and another orphan, Mal, are out doing an errand she ends up saving Mal’s life by using a power she didn’t know she had. The Darkling, who is the overseer of the Grisha, takes them both. He separates them which causes a great sense of loss for the two of them. Mal is tasked to be a tracker of a particular stag that will be used to advance the Darklings plan. While Alina is put with the other Grisha, who are magical, to learn how to harness her powers. Alina’s powers are what the Darkling is seeking to help him with the kingdom that is in danger. The stag that Mal is trying to find is what is needed to be an amplifier for Alina’s powers. The stag’s antlers are what the Darkling wants Mal to find.
Will I read the other 2 books in the trilogy?
I found the overall story to be interesting and I’m curious to see how the storyline resolves. So, yes, I will continue on in the series.
