WICKED INTENTIONS

Elizabeth Hoyt

(Maiden Lane Book 1)

BLURB

From the New York Times bestselling author of To Desire a Devil comes this thrilling tale of danger, desire, and dark passions.

A MAN CONTROLLED BY HIS DESIRES . . .

Infamous for his wild, sensual needs, Lazarus Huntington, Lord Caire, is searching for a savage killer in St. Giles, London’s most notorious slum. Widowed Temperance Dews knows St. Giles like the back of her hand-she’s spent a lifetime caring for its inhabitants at the foundling home her family established. Now that home is at risk . . .

A WOMAN HAUNTED BY HER PAST . . .

Caire makes a simple offer-in return for Temperance’s help navigating the perilous alleys of St. Giles, he will introduce her to London’s high society so that she can find a benefactor for the home. But Temperance may not be the innocent she seems, and what begins as cold calculation soon falls prey to a passion that neither can control-one that may well destroy them both.

A BARGAIN NEITHER COULD REFUSE

 FOUR POINT FIVE STARS

WICKED INTENTIONS is an intriguing title that caught my attention. Plus, several of my Goodreads friends had read it and enjoyed it. I noticed my library had the audio version so I put myself on the waitlist and recently received it.

The widowed Temperance runs a founding home with the help of her brother, Winter. Since this is a historical romance I’ll give a definition, taken from the internet, on what a founding hospital is, an institution for children who had been abandoned or exposed, and left for the public to find and save. A foundling hospital was not necessarily a medical hospital, but more commonly a children’s home, offering shelter and education to foundlings.

The home’s patron has died which has left them in desperate need of someone to fund them. Otherwise, they won’t be able to continue feeding and housing these unfortunate infants and children. Temperance has taken that burden upon herself to find the next benefactor to financially support them.

Lord Caire approaches Temperance with a DEAL that she can’t refuse… a you scratch my back and I’ll scratch your back kind of deal. In the dead of the night Temperance guides Lord Caire through the slums of London while he searches for the killer of his mistress and in return, he’ll introduce her to the high society people who could fund her home.

Lord Caire is an interesting character. He’s aristocratic with a dark feel about him. There’s an air of mystery that surrounds him and his pass. Early on we learn that he lacks feelings towards others. And when he’s touched he feels pain but if he’s the one touching then he’s fine. In a way, he reminded me of Christian Grey with his touch issues, his mysterious past, and his erotic bedroom play which Lord Caire indulges in too.

The title makes sense when we read about the sex scenes … this is a steamy book.

Wicked Intentions is my first book by Elizabeth Hoyt but it won’t be my last because I need to know what is happening with the secondary characters as this series continues.
