TARGET ON OUR BACKS is a continuation of Monster in His Eyes & Torture to Her Soul told in dual points of view.
Naz & Karissa are now married and living in New York. Naz is trying to be the man Karissa sees him as; a good man. ”A leopard doesn’t change its spots.” Even with the changes, Naz has committed himself to, deep down his core is still mafia.
”You’re lucky. You see, I’m trying to do better these days, trying to be a better man, trying to be the man my wife thinks I can be, so I’m not going to kill you tonight. I’m going to give you a chance.”
One of the funniest ways Naz changes was updating his cell’s ringtone to ‘Hotline Bling’ by Drake. I busted up laughing when I saw this tough guy receive an incoming call with Holine Bling playing. It was so out of character, for him, that it made it comical.
I love the messages we get in Ms. Darhower’s mafia books.’If Naz taught me anything, it’s that sometimes coincidences aren’t really coincidences. Sometimes they’re orchestrated.’ True in real life and true in TARGET ON OUR BACKS.
Karissa may not have anything to do with the mafia world, besides being married to a killer, but because of her connection to Naz, it makes her dangerous. ”I’m dangerous because of Naz. Naz would kill for me. He’d kill because of me.” The ones we love most make us most vulnerable. Love is both our strength and weakness.
I loved this story. It’s my favorite in the 3 part series. Just like everyone else, I was pleasantly surprised when Ms. Darhower announced we were getting another book about Naz. I’ve missed reading her mafia books and this one hit the spot. The overall flow of this book was perfection.
For lovers of Monster in His Eyes series, you’ll want to read this dark and twisty conclusion to their love story.
