5 Stars … A fantastic read!
I’m not an experienced fantasy-reader by any means, but I have read enough to know what I search for most in this particular genre: no matter how outlandish the plot may be, I just want to become convinced.
And, in this case, I was. This author convinced me that this crazy war between the Nephilim and Downworlders (along with their clockwork creations) was in fact very real, and, in turn, pretty damn exciting.
Clockwork Angel offers not only an action-packed trip into this unique and believable world complete with angels, demons, vampires, and warlocks–but I truly felt as though I’d hopped in a time machine and was lifted back to a distant era: the late 1800’s. It was a beautiful setting, and this author’s imaginative storytelling and exquisite attention to detail breathed life (and death) into these pages.
However, as thrilling as this story eventually becomes, it does have an equally gentle and haunting tone and that is what I found most compelling.
This is book one of a three part series, and while there is no definitive romance to speak of just yet, the groundwork has been set for what I’m certain will be an epic love story. The relationship between hero and heroine is pretty intense, but moves at an extremely slow pace–just the way I prefer it–and there is much keeping them apart.
Fantasy/Paranormal/Sci-fi fans should check this out, if you haven’t already. As for me, I’m on to book 2!
