FOXY’S REVIEW!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Fighting Silence is a fighter book like none other. I was expecting a book that mainly focused on fighting but instead it was the love story of the man behind the gloves. The love of his family and the girl he nightly climbed through the window for.

Till and Eliza are teens who don’t come from wealth or even a loving household. But the moment Till’s 13 year old self crawls through the window of a vacant apartment his reality turns into fantasy. On the other side of that window is Eliza, a girl in a similar financial and family state. Both of these teens escape their reality by crossing the threshold of that vacant apartment’s window to a world where no one but themselves exists. The harsh lifestyles that are bestowed upon them disappears for brief moments each day when they are able to just be in this alternate reality where no one demands anything from them. When these friends-to-soulmates are forced to face what lies beyond the window they go with this attitude:

”We do what we always do. We go to battle against the world.” ~Eliza

Even in adulthood their world is not easy. It’s like the world is against them. But one thing that helps Till deal with all the letdowns is CLIMBING through Eliza’s window.

description

The window was like it’s own character in the book. It held so much promise and hope that when Eliza demanded Till use the door and stop living in his fantasy world…my heart broke for him. ”I don’t want to live in a world where the windows are locked and the Page boys don’t eat me out house and home.” ~Eliza
The window represented everything that Till wanted for his life. It’s where he could go and not face the impending reality that torments him. No trying to make sure his younger brothers are taken care of, no worrying about where his next meal was coming from, no waiting for when his world would go silent…

By the end of the book I was so invested in the story that I knew this book was going to be a winner for me. Even though this is my first book by Aly Martinez it won’t be my last. I’m dying to read the next two books. Ms. Martinez did an excellent job completing Till & Eliza’s story but intriguing the reader to want the rest of the books in the series. I’m not sure how I’m going to make it to the end of June waiting for the next book!
Loved it!

FMA’S REVIEW!

BRILLIANT! CAPTIVATING! GRIPPING! A TKO!

5+++ Stars!

“Leave the window open.”

I read this author’s Wrecked and Ruined series, which I loved, but this book was BRILLIANT! It took me completely by surprise! She held my heart in her hands the entire time.

The author held to a similar character style in that she has strong and sassy heroines (which I adore!) and her men hold on to a huge sense of familial responsibility (how freaking sexy is that?). When those characters interact they can’t help but clash and this brings into play something else Martinez does so well, writing story lines which are dramatic and humorous at the same time.

I won this from BOOK BABES UNITE and I am very grateful! This book was so worth the wait. I wanted to be able to read it on my own time. It needed to be read with the slow attention I could give it. I devoured the words on each page. I was wrapped up in their beauty. The author took me on a beautiful journey that I did not want to end! However, by the time I finished this book, I was an emotional mess. All I could do was stare at my iPad. I literally, was and still am, rendered speechless. (For those that know me, know how truly special that is.)

Written in dual POV, this was a beautiful friends to lovers story. Which is one of my favorites because it allows for a build of romance and tension. It allows for real life. The dirty, the crap, the struggles. Because life isn’t easy, it isn’t all shiny.

Both characters were from dirt poor families and both were emotionally neglected by their parents, yet still had the fortitude to fight for a better life for themselves and each other. She found solace in her art, he found it in his fighting.

She found safety and love from Till…

“He was my escape- the dream personified.”

“Till Page was my soulmate on every level.”

And from Eliza, he found a sense of belonging and purpose. He slowly learned how to become a man while sneaking off to that apartment. And that scared the crap out of him. He feared losing her. That consumed him. If he lost her, he would lose his purpose.

“I decided a long time ago that the window at the old apartment was some kind of portal to a whole other dimension. One where life was easy and people like you existed.”

These characters fell in love with each other as teenagers and their love grew from puppy love to an all-consuming once-in-a-life-time love. They only have each other. And the support they give to and take from each other is astounding. It’s unconditional love at its purist.

“Together, we kept it clean. I made sure we always had power and you made sure I didn’t starve. That was hell of a lot more than I got at home. You took care of me, and with what little I had, I took care of you.”

When life’s struggles became too much they didn’t wallow in self-pity long, they looked upon each other and found the strength necessary to move on and survive.

I loved it! This was Aly Martinez’s best work yet! I would be remiss if I didn’t speak of Till’s younger brother’s, Quarry and Flint! They are incredibly written supporting character’s with so much depth that when we got a glimpse of their POV’s I squealed with delight. Talk about a gift! The next book will be Flint’s story, I know it will be another tear jerker and heart breaker! I cannot wait to read it, tears, heartbreak and all – bring. it. on!
