#MeetYourNext Heroine: Ada from Carry the World by Susan Fanetti

Welcome to our stop on the Meet Your Next Book Heroine tour! I’m highlighting Ada from Carry the World by Susan Fanetti.

Ada is one of the strongest fictional characters I’ve ever read.  While she may be fictional the situation of Pack Librarians during The Great Depression were real.

Ada is a widow who is helping to take care of her aging parents.  She becomes a Pack Horse Librarian in Kentucky’s Appalachian mountain area. A pack librarian brought books and magazines up into the mountains where there weren’t roads and people were basically cut off from civilization.  Pack Librarians faced many hardships as they worked to deliver reading materials to isolated people.

“Times were hard. Life was loss. Ada hadn’t known a day without strife and sorrow …”

PACK LIBRARIANS WERE A REAL THING IN THE 1930s.

Carry the World is also available in audiobook format.
I’ve had the pleasure to both read this book and listen to it, and I have to say either way it’s one of the best books I’ve read.
