I seem to have a habit of reading creepy books during the month of October. This week’s time warp takes us back to the year 2013, when I read a very spooky duo of books.
The Devil’s Metal & The Devil’s Reprise are not only 2 of the scariest books, but also 2 of the hottest books I’ve ever read! Of course it doesn’t hurt that they’re written by one of my favorite authors, Karina Halle. This pair is seriously under-rated. If you enjoy a suspenseful, mysterious and sexy as hell read, I recommend giving these books a try.

Holy, bloody fucking HELL!!
5 stars are not even close to enough for this book. Karina Halle you are a MASTER!
This book is scary shit! If you are a scaredy pants (like me) you will not want to read this book late at night … or in the dark … or alone in a room … or in a room with freaky looking people … or anywhere you consider even remotely scary. I was seriously terrified for almost the full second half of this book!
It is set in 1974 – with a very cool heavy rock vibe permeating throughout the whole book. Even though I wasn’t born until ’75 & I’m fairly confident that Ms. Halle doesn’t have much first hand knowledge either – it all felt so very authentic. I truly enjoyed being swept back to the ’70’s.
Of course there is so much more to this book than scares alone.
The characters are interesting & intense – our main character Dawn is flawlessly written – I absolutely love her (as I do all of KH’s strong female leads).
There is some romance to the story.
Did I mention the sexy rock stars?
Throw in a couple of fun & perfectly written EIT tie-ins and you’ve got yourself a fabulous start to what promises to be another amazing series!
Anxiously awaiting the next installment!

Be careful what you wish for …
Good to know.
Thanks to Karina Halle, I now have a list of things I will forever try to avoid:
2. Desperate pleas to unknown demonic forces
3. Sleepwalking deals made with the devil
4. Hotel bathrooms
5. Half-awake dream sex with super hot rock gods
A wonderfully scary romp through Europe. I did not get as much of the amazing ’70’s music vibe as I did from The Devil’s Metal … but all the other elements were there – including an additional familiar nod to the EIT series. Sage & Dawn are a crazy couple – and I love them. This was a great ending to their terrifying adventure.
Karina Halle really knows how to write horror! I am always glued to the pages of her books & get that feeling of fear & anxiety right along with her characters. Oh yeah – she can write a pretty steamy sex scene too. WOW.
I can’t wait for her next release … although I will be sure to skip #1-4 on my list and move straight to #5 while waiting – because, let’s be honest – who really wants to avoid #5?!
