 MY INTERVIEW WITH THE TWINS

1. Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp?

Krista: If there was one message, it would probably be: Be proud of who you are, and don’t let anyone make you feel ashamed for your personal choices.

Becca: Definitely what Krista said. And also: follow your dreams, whatever they may be.

2.   Which authors do you consider to be your mentor?

Krista: I’m not sure we consider any authors as our “mentors.” We really started writing and our careers without much guidance from other authors. We lived by the “trial and error” method and really made our own mistakes and learned from them. But we do consider many authors inspirations. For instance, I highly look up to Wendy Higgins, Maggie Stievater, Julie Cross, Leigh Bardugo, and Stephanie Perkins.

Becca: And I’ve always admired Victoria Schwab and Jennifer L. Armentrout for being so personable to their fans. When we were just readers, not authors, I felt like I knew them from afar because they interacted so much with everyone. It’s the best feeling to have as a fan. I knew if we were ever someday published, I’d want to be as available to our readers as they are to theirs.

3. Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?

Krista: I always offer the same advice, even if it sounds lame lol. Keep writing. Don’t stop. Even if you think you’re not that great, if it’s something you truly truly love, you can learn to be better. All it takes is a boat load of persistence.

Becca: What Krista said. Never stop writing. Never stop reading. Also: try to write multiple books. For years, we were hung up on one book, writing different versions of it. If we didn’t let go, the Addicted series would’ve never happened.

4.  What are you reading right now?

Krista: I have been majorly slacking on my reading lately! I blame Addicted After All edits and promo tour things. Plus, Oliver Altman (our dream cast for Connor Cobalt) may have stolen an entire weekend from us by changing his bio to “Kiss the sky with me” on instagram. It’s a valid excuse! But after AAA releases, my first book on my TBR list is To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han.

Becca: Oliver Altman acknowledging the series was insane! I die each time I see his bio again. I’m not currently reading any book since we’ve been editing, and I hate stopping and starting books. I’m the kind of reader where I like to sit down and read it all at once within a couple days. Or else it takes me weeks to finish. Once AAA releases, I’ll finally be able to read Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins.

5. What’s your advice for people of your generation?

Krista: Don’t wait. Another seemingly silly piece of advice, but I found it really useful growing up. Don’t wait for someone to show you the path to the things you want. Make that path on your own. Becca and I used to live by this rule. When Becca wanted to be a screenwriter, she didn’t wait for a college screenwriting course—she learned it on her own. When I wanted to be a doctor, I didn’t wait for the scheduled research courses—I emailed a research professor out of the blue and landed a spot in a Genetics lab my Freshman year. And most importantly, when we were twelve years old, we wanted to write, but we didn’t wait to learn how from school or classes or workshops. We just started writing. The longer you wait for the life you want, the more years you waste doing the things you don’t love.

Becca: That was beautiful, Krista! And I agree wholeheartedly. When I was finally able to take a screenwriting course in college, they didn’t teach the basics. They expected everyone to already know them. So it really goes to show that what you’re waiting for might not even be what’s given. The paths that you make will most likely be what you want than the paths that you’re waiting for.

6. If you could live any time period what would it be? Why?

Krista: The more courageous part of me would say the 16th century. A time of great art and monarchies. But…I would die without toilets and razors and yes, tampons. I could not give up my hygiene—even if it meant the possibility of sitting on a royal throne. So I’d choose the…future. Is that allowed? It is now 😉

Becca: As a woman, a lot of the old time periods suck. Corsets? No. Unable to vote? No. Subservient to men? Nope nope nope. I would choose the twenties, but you know, I can’t dance at all. And when I think of the twenties, I think of dancing (among other things). So I’d choose maybe the sixties and early seventies.

7.  If you could date any of the guy characters from the Addicted series, which one would it be and why? (Yes, of course, the Calloway sisters are out of the picture)

Krista: Connor Cobalt. I’m really attracted to intelligence. Plus…he’s Connor Cobalt 😉

Becca: Loren Hale. But it’d have to start as that childhood type of love that he has with Lily. I wouldn’t want to be Lo’s Cassie. Despite his battles, he has the capacity to give so much love to a person, and it’s something that’s really precious. So I choose him. This leaves Ryke Meadows up for the taking!

8. Which Friends character would you rather have as a best friend? Rachel or Monica or Phoebe?

Krista: I’m a lot like Monica—neurotic and such—so I wouldn’t want myself as a best friend. Phoebe is awesome in the show, but I’d still have to say Rachel. I love her spunk and her love of shopping.

Becca: I’d want Monica to be my best friend. She’d tidy up my living room when she comes over (major perk), and she’s not very indecisive about things. She has plans and she wants to follow ‘em. I’m a go-with-the-flow type of person, so she’d be a good best friend for me.

9. If you had to be a Taylor Swift song which one would you be?

Krista: I actually don’t listen to much Taylor Swift, so I don’t know many of her songs. Ahhh! So hard. Um. I guess 22. Even though I’m 23. *sighs* Crappy answer, I know.

Becca:  I don’t listen to Tayler Swift either. And that’s the only song I know too!

10.      Which scene would you rather do KTS 21% or HHF 69%?

Krista: No question. KTS 21%.

Becca: I’m a little adventurous at times, and so HF 69% calls out to me. And that number was completely coincidence for that scene, but it’s kind of perfect ;)

Thanks so much for having us on your blog, Amy! We loved these questions <3

addicted after all

BLURB:

Two addicts. One epic love story.

Prepare for the worst.

That’s what Lily and Lo try to do when Jonathan Hale schedules an “important” meeting. The problem: after being swept into the public eye and battling their addictions, they’re not sure what the worst is anymore.

In a sea of many changes—including Ryke & Daisy living with them—Lily realizes that the best part of her fluctuating hormones might just be the worst.

Her sex drive is out of control.

Loren knows that she’s insatiable, but he’s not giving up on her. She’s too much a part of him. And as he carries more and more responsibility, some of the people that he loves doubt his resolve.

In the conclusion to their love story, Lily & Lo stand side-by-side to fight, one last time, for their happily ever after.

    1. “I l o v e d, loved, LOVED this interview!
Their advice to ‘this generation” was superb, as was their advice to anyone who wants to aspiring authors.”

I think I was so excited by your post, it left me without the ability to think/type clearly… 😉

  1. Yes, I love that some authors who write great stories are so buddy buddy with their fans because it’s like they’re superhuman, but not above being mortal lol. TO ALL THE BOYS *swoons* And I really need to read Isla too. I hope the twins like these two stories. I like the generation question and the twins answers! I like that they give personal answers to everything and color them with examples because it’s so hard to follow your dreams knowing they may not come true at all, but this really gives people courage so I’m really glad KB are the way they are 🙂 CONNOR. FREAKIN. COBALT. ’nuff said! :’) HAHAHAHA!!!!! I’M MONICA TOO 😀 LOL though I’m indecisive, so that’s my least Monica-ish attribute. OOOOOH! KTS 21%. I mean, HF 69% is on point, but nothing beats KTS 21%. EVER 😉 Such a fun interview! Thanks for sharing, Amy! <33

  2. THIS INTERVIEW <3 <3 <3 I loved the advice they gave to aspiring writers and to this generation. Not that I wouldn't swoop in for Ryke, but Lo, my love! Thanks for sharing, Amy 🙂
