I’m jumping back in time to see what I was reading in 2013 during this week.  I scanned my Goodreads account to find out what type of books I was spending my time reading.  Very interesting to see how my book taste have changed and evolved.  I wonder if I was to read some of these books now if I would feel the same about them as I did when I first read them.  Unfortunately, I have so many on my TBR (to-be-read) shelf that most books I will never get around to re-reading.

On April 23, 2013, I read Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell.  I remember loving it because it was different from any other young adult literature I had read. I do plan to re-read it but this time I will do it via audio.  You can listen to a sample of the audio here.  If you still aren’t convinced about E&P … it has won a lot of literary awards along with Goodreads Choice for Best Young Adult of 2013.

First off I need to thank,Bren, for introducing this book to me. Otherwise I would have never even known it existed. Great find, Bren!

description

Not your typical highschool romance novel.
Eleanor doesn’t fit the Barbie doll type. She has crazy red hair, dresses funky and isn’t skinny.

Park is half Korean (the only Asian kid in the state of Nebraska). He’s loves comic books and alternative music.

They are both sophomores in highschool trying to survive the 80’s. Eleanor is new and needs to find a seat on the school bus. Overtime their friendship is built on comic books and music.

This book had me feeling every emotion for these two quirky teens. When the book ended I’m not even sure if it was an HEA or not. But I would like to believe it was for them. It has been a long time since I read a book without an epilogue!! I really wanted to know what happened to them in the future. But I guess I’ll have to use my imagination.

65th book of 2013
