Review: THE CHASE by @ElleKennedy #5stars
(Briar U, #1)
Everyone says opposites attract. And they must be right, because there’s no logical reason why I’m so drawn to Colin Fitzgerald. I don’t usually go for tattoo-covered, video-gaming, hockey-playing nerd-jocks who think I’m flighty and superficial. His narrow view of me is the first strike against him. It doesn’t help that he’s buddy-buddy with my brother.
And that his best friend has a crush on me.
And that I just moved in with them.
Oh, did I not mention we’re roommates?
I suppose it doesn’t matter. Fitzy has made it clear he’s not interested in me, even though the sparks between us are liable to burn our house down. I’m not the kind of girl who chases after a man, though, and I’m not about to start. I’ve got my hands full dealing with a new school, a sleazy professor, and an uncertain future. So if my sexy brooding roomie wises up and realizes what he’s missing?
He knows where to find me.
THE DATING GAME questions with Fitz and Summer:
1. FITZ, CAN YOU DESCRIBE HOW SUMMER SMELLS?
”She smells like heaven, some fascinating combo of flowers and jasmine and vanilla and – sandalwood, maybe?”
2. FITZ, CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHY YOU AND SUMMER ARE NOT COMPATIBLE?
”I design and review video games. I’m into art. I’m covered in ink and I binge-watch crime shows on Netflix. And she’s… I don’t even know. She’s obsessed with shoes, according to Dean [her brother and former teammate]. And he insists she has a shopping problem.”
3. SUMMER, HOW DO YOU SEE YOURSELF?
”I see a ditzy blonde who got kicked out of one sorority and banned from another, who’s always on academic probation, whose father had to call in a favor to get her into college, whose brother called another one in to find her a place to live. I see a screw-up.”
4. SUMMER, SINCE YOU’RE A FASHION MAJOR WHO IS YOUR INSPIRATION AND WHY?
“Chanel. She tried to make a go of it as an actress, failed, and went into fashion. That’s the reason I love her. When her original plans fell through, she didn’t give up. She chose a different path, succeeded, and become an icon…”
Now that you’ve gotten to know a little bit about Fitz and Summer, you can read about how these two opposites become a couple. Their road isn’t an easy one. Their styles are so different that they privately wonder if this attraction they feel will work.
I love the sports/college romance genre because I get to go back and relive my college days. Watching them figure out what they want to do with their lives and find love is entertaining to read.
THE CHASE is the first book in a spin-off series: Briar U. It’s a sports/college romance about opposites who fall in love. Along the way, there’s another suitor and a sleazy professor. If you love this genre as much as I do then you won’t want to miss out on this gem.
